The red gazelle ("Eudorcas rufina") is an
extinct species ofgazelle , which lived in northernAlgeria andMorocco .Some authorities (e.g. Kingdon 1997), however, consider that it was a
subspecies ofRed-fronted Gazelle ("E. rufifrons"). The red gazelle was formerly considered a member of the genus "Gazella" within the subgenus "Eudorcas" before "Eudorcas" was elevated to genus status. It probably lived in the better-watered mountain areas of
North Africa rather than indesert s. The last record dated from before1894 . It is known from three specimens, which were purchased in markets inAlgiers andOran , northern Algeria, in the latenineteenth century . They are held inmuseum s inParis andLondon .External source
