Sheryl Sandberg is the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook Inc. Before that she served as Vice President of Global Online Sales and Operations at Google. She is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School. She is married to David Goldberg, a venture capitalist with Benchmark Capital.

After graduating from Harvard College in 1991, she worked under Lawrence Summers, who was her senior thesis adviser in college, at the World Bank. She later earned her MBA from Harvard Business School in 1995 and worked at McKinsey & Co. as a management consultant. Sandberg then served as chief of staff to Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers from 1999 to 2001. Turning down several investment bank offers, she joined Google when George W. Bush came into office and both Summers and his team left the Treasury. She also served on the board of Google's philanthropic division, google.org, whose stated goal is providing sustainable solutions to the problems of poverty, energy and the environment.
