Sunny Boy Cereal

Sunny Boy Cereal

Sunny Boy Cereal is a porridge, or hot cereal, made of wheat, rye, and flax, produced in Camrose, Alberta, Canada. The brand name is currently owned by Schroeder Milling of Camrose, Alberta but the cereal was originally produced in Camrose, Alberta by Byers Flour Mills, starting in 1929 It was formulated by Mr. W.H. Byers and was first intended for local consumption within Camrose and District. However, it gradually grew into a nationally accepted product.

The advised method of cooking, boiling, yields an impressive output for the original ingredients. Generally, the hot cereal is made with a 4:1 water to cereal ratio, and salt. Raisins or blackcurrants have been known to be added. For optimum results, it is boiled until desired consistency is reached, then covered and let stand for a period of three to five minutes.

It is often consumed with the addition of brown sugar and cream.

Sunny Boy cereal is similar to Red River Cereal.
