Lanyon High School is a
secondary school located in Conder,Australian Capital Territory . It serves theLanyon Valley and surrounding rural areas in the Tuggeranong district ofCanberra ,Australia . The school opened in 1996. The principal is Mrs Jeanine Catton and her deputy is Ms Glenys Patulny.In
2005 the school population was 750, down from 830 in2004 . The fall can be attributed to slowing growth in the Lanyon Valley.The school operates on a split timetable with juniors (years seven and eight) and seniors (years nine and ten) having lunch and recess at different times. This split timetable was introduced in response to overcrowding of amenities and staffing shortages.
Recent events
In 2004 the
Commonwealth Bank gave Lanyon High school a financial literacy grant of $3,500 to set up a small business. This grant was used to sell Dominoes Pizza under the name "31220".In 2006 Lanyon played host to the launch of the BEACON FOUNDATION Program for Tuggeranong High Schools.
In September 2006 the ACT Government spent $50,000 on resurfacing the school's oval which included replacement of the grass. The decision to do this at a time when the ACT is in drought and facing water restrictions drew criticism from some members of the community.
