- Llanidan
Llanidan is a
parish in south-westAnglesey , which includes the village ofBrynsiencyn . The parish is located along theMenai Straits , approximately 4miles north-east ofCaernarfon (which is however on the other side of the straits). The parish church is located near theA4080 highway , a little to the east of Brynsiencyn.History
It has been suggested that it was here that the Roman
general Suetonius landed in60 AD , and then again in78 AD by Agricola, in their efforts to pacify theOrdovices of north-west Wales and Anglesey, at a spot known as Bryn Beddau, ("The Hill of Graves" in Welsh). Amongst the notable people associated with the parish are
Henry Rowlands , who was therector of Llanidan when he published the "Mona Antiquae Restarata " in 1723, and theindustrialist Thomas Williams of Llanidan , who lived in Plas Llanidan.Amenities
There is a horse stud located there; Llanidan Stud breeds Welsh ponies of Cob type (section C) and Welsh Cobs (section D) and is owned by E.W Jones.
