On July 22 1973, the Boeing 707 took off from Faa'a International Airport in Papeete. Thirty seconds after takeoff, the plane crashed into the ocean. The plane banked to the left, and at 300 feet, looped around, and crashed into the sea. The wreckage sank in waters off Papeete. All 78 persons listed on board were killed, though reports also indicate there may have been one survivor.
