Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is a vital part of the organisation, providing communication on multiple platforms and local networking within the battlefield. It is one of the key thrusts of SAF's progression towards being a "3rd Generation Army" (3G Army)by providing means Integrated Knowledge-Based Command and Control (IKC2).History
Before IndependenceThe Signals formation was established in 1954. The Signals Corps of the then called Singapore Volunteer Corps was reorganised into the Singapore Military Forces Independent Brigade Signal Squadron. The Early YearsAfter declaration of Singapore as a sovereign state and the Armed Forces of the Independent Republic of Singapore was established, the 1st Singapore Armed Forces Signals Corps was formed on 1 March 1966.
The pioneer signal unit, MID Signal Battalion, now known as 1st Signal Battalion, was formed on6 February 1967. CPT Winston Choo, the first Chief of Defence Force, was the Commanding Officer of the battalion.The 1980's and BeyondHQ Signals was formed on 1 March 1982 to manage with the increasing demands for faster and better communications system in SAF.
In 1988, HQ Signals moved to its present location at Stagmont Camp.
The Signal formation continually evolves in various aspects to ensure that advancements in technology are fully exploited to give SAF the edge in any circumstances
