Preventive Security Service
- Preventive Security Service
The Preventive Security Service ( _ar. الأمن الوقائي) is the official security apparatus of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). It was established in 1994 by Yasser Arafat in accordance with the Oslo Accords. It plays a role similar to a police force with a branch responsible for the Gaza Strip and one for the West Bank.
The organization was accused of torture and abusive interrogation of Arafat's political opponents as well as, dissidents of the PNA. Mohammed Dahlan heads the Gaza branch although he was exiled from that territory in June 2007 after, the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip. Jibril Rajoub was the leader of the West Bank branch until he was dismissed in 2002.
