New Jersey Tech Highlanders

New Jersey Tech Highlanders

New Jersey Tech Highlanders refers to the athletic sports members of the Division 1 NCAA-affiliated sports teams of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). They are also known as New Jersey "Highlanders" and the "NJIT Highlanders".

NJIT is in the process of reclassifying its sports programs to NCAA Division I from NCAA Division II and is expected to complete this reclassification to full Division 1 status and post-season championship eligibility in 2009-2010.

The "Highlanders" are currently competing in the NCAA mostly as Independents as they are currently still seeking for a conference affiliation for the bulk of their sporting programs. The "Men’s Volleyball team" will play in the upper division ("Tait Division") of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Conference in year 2008 after winning the lower division ("Hay Division") championship in 2007. The "Men’s Soccer team" competes in the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) while the "Women’s Soccer team" competes in the United Soccer Conference (USC).

The university is currently raising money to endow its sports scholarship funds and to further upgrade its sports facilities which currently already include a new Sprinturf artificial-surface all-weather soccer field ("Lubetkin field").

Besides hosting visiting college teams on campus, it currently also hosts visiting teams in world-class facilities, like the Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium and the Prudential Center, in the city of "Newark" in "New Jersey" where it resides.
