Emilio Sánchez Font

Emilio Sánchez Font (June 1921 in Camagüey, Cuba - July 7, 1999 in Warwick, New York, United States) was a Cuban artist specializing in painting, engraving and drawing.

He resided in Havana between the years 1932 and 1952 and in New York City since 1952. In the forties he studied in Columbia University, in the Art Students League of New York and in Yale University (B.A.), New Haven, Connecticut.

Individual exhibitions

His individual exhibitions begun in 1949 in the Joseph Luyber Gallery, New York. He was also exhibited in 1964 at the Galería Fortuny, Madrid, Spain.In 1971 he did another show withn the name " Emilio Sánchez. Litografías" at the Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas, Venezuela. More recently he showed his pieces in 1997 "Emilio Sánchez. Recent Works". Elite Fine Art, Coral Gables, Florida. This is only a selection of all the Sanchez's shows.

Collective exhibitions

In a collective perspective we can mention the exhibition that took place in the Cork Street Gallery, London in 1956 the name was "American Prints". In 1959 he participated in the Annual Event of painting, sculpture and engraving, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, Havana, Cuba. In 1978 he was invited to the International Art Fair, Basel, Switzerland. And in 1997 his pieces were part of "Breaking Barriers. Selections from the Museum of Art’s Permanent Contemporary Cuban Collection". Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Collections

Some of the collections that keeps his work are the Anglo American Bank, U.S.A. IBM Corporation, U.S.A., Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, Havana, CUBA. Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Awards

He has been awarded in several occasions. In 1969 he obtained the Bronze Medal. Pennsylvania Academy Exhibition, Pennsylvania Academy of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1970 gained the David Kaplan Acquisition Prize. Color Print Annual, New Jersey State Museum, New Jersey. And in 1974 he was selected for the Prize. Tercera Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
