Richard Tylney, 1st Earl Tylney

Richard Tylney, 1st Earl Tylney (5 February 1680 – March 1750) was an English Member of Parliament and peer in the Peerage of Ireland.

He was born as Richard Child. On 20 January, 1704 he succeeded his half-brother Josiah as 3rd baronet (of Wanstead), becoming Sir Richard Child. He entered Parliament as member for Maldon in 1705, and subsequently represented Essex from 1710 to 1722 and again from 1727 to 1734.

In 1703, he had married Dorothy Glynne, daughter of John Glynne and his wife Dorothy, daughter of Francis Tylney of Tylney Hall, Hampshire. On 24 April, 1718, Sir Richard was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Newtown, in the County of Donegal, and Viscount Castlemaine, in the County of Kerry, and in 1731 he was created Earl Tylney, of Castlemaine in the County of Kerry, also in the Peerage of Ireland. In 1734, Earl Tylney assumed the surname Tylney by Act of Parliament.

His eldest son Richard Tylney, Viscount Castlemaine (d. 1734), predeceased him, without issue, and he was succeeded by his second son, John.
