Bagris

Bagris

Megilat Antiochus

Bagris is mentioned in Megillat Antiochus as Antiochus's general who attempted to conquer Jerusalem. He is described as so powerful that he built himself a city opposite Antiochus's own capital, which he named after himself.

"His general was Bagris and he also built himself a city, opposite it . He named it Bagris, after himself and these are their names until today." [Megillat Antiochus vs. 5]

He is probably the general Bacchides who was sent by Demetrius against Jerusalem some years after Antiochus.
