Luc Lafortune (born
September 9 ,1958 ) is an award winninglighting designer for the entertainment industry as well as one of the original designers of the world renownedCirque Du Soleil . He works in both conceptual and technical development, having collaborated with the likes ofFranco Dragone , and Mark Fisher.Luc Lafortune started working with Cirque Du Soleil in 1984 and since then, has designed numerous Cirque Du Soleil shows. His resumé includes the shows
O (Cirque du Soleil) , We Reinvent the Circus, Fascination, Nouvelle Expérience,Saltimbanco ,Mystère ,Alegría , Quidam, La Nouba, Dralion, Varekai, Zumanity and Ka.Many internationally successful artists have also called upon his talents. He has worked with
No Doubt ,The Eagles ,Gypsy Kings , andThe Dixie Chicks . In 2002, he worked withPeter Gabriel , designing the lighting for his world tour.He has also won numerous awards for his works. In 1992, his design for the show Saltimbanco earned him a Drama-Logue Theater Award. In 1994, he received the Lighting Dimensions International (LDI) Lighting Designer of the year Award. In 1997, his work on Martin Professionals show The Atomic Lounge, for which Luc Lafortune was artistic director, won the LDI Award for Best Light Show. In 1998, he received an Entertainment Design Award for his lighting design for the show O, as well as a THEA (
Themed Entertainment Association ) Award, in 1999. And finally, in 2005, Luc Lafortune was honored with the USITT (United States Institute of Theatre Technology ) Distinguished Achievement Award in Lighting Design.Luc Lafortune is also a sought after speaker.
Life
Luc Lafortune was born in
Montreal ,Quebec ,Canada . He is a graduate ofConcordia University , having earned a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts. Upon graduation, Lafortune went to work for Cirque Du Soleil, embarking on their first tour ever.Awards
