Marine Marlin type C4-S-A3 ship. Built in
1945 byKaiser Shipyards ,Vancouver ,Washington as a troop transport with capacity to carry 3,485 troops for operation by the War Shipping Agency. 1946 chartered to theUnited States Lines and fitted to carry 926 tourist class passengers. Made her firstNew York -Bremen voyage on September 16, 1946, completed her last Bremen - New York crossing on July 17, 1949, passengers were mostly fromStuttgart Germany and were of Armenian decent. In 1952 it was intended to be transferred to U.S. Navy as a transport but was not acquired. 1965 it was converted to a dry cargo ship and renamed Green Bay. On August 17, 1971 it was sank in Qui Nonh harbour after underwater explosion caused byViet Cong frogmen while discharging military supplies. On September 1, 1971 it was refloated and towed toHong Kong where it was scrapped in 1972. This ship came to the United States in 1949 to bring over immigrants. On July 17, 1949 this ship docked in New York with passengers from Germany. There were many from Stuttgart Germany who were of Armenian decent that arrived to the United States via this ship. 12,410 gross tons, 523ft x 71.7ft, engines aft.
