Born in
Ruzhyn in theRussian Empire (today inUkraine ), Repetur was educated in aheder , and was a member of theDror andHeHalutz youth movements. During thepogrom s he helped to organizeJew ish defense groups.In 1920, Repetur immigrated to Mandate Palestine and joined
Ahdut HaAvoda and theHaganah inHaifa . In 1922 he became a member of the Haifa Workers Council secretariat. In 1927, he was appointed secretary of the Labour exchange of theHistadrut labor federation. He also served as head of theSolel Boneh construction company.In 1935 and 1939 Repetur was a delegate to the
Zionist Congress , and was sent on missions toGermany andPoland .In 1944 he was amongst the "B faction" that split from
Mapai and later formedMapam together with Ahdut HaAvoda andPoale Zion . Two years later he was arrested by the British Authorities duringOperation Agatha and imprisoned inRafah .In 1948 Repetur joined the pre-state legislature, Moetzet HaAm (later the
Provisional State Council ), and was amongst the signatories of Israel's declaration of independence. He was elected to the first Knesset in 1949 on Mapam's list, but lost his seat in the 1951 elections.Repetur died in 1989. His wife, Sonia, was a founder of
kibbutz Yagur and an aunt of politicianYossi Sarid .References
