- Caffeoyl-CoA O-methyltransferase
In
enzymology , a caffeoyl-CoA O-methyltransferase (EC number|2.1.1.104) is anenzyme that catalyzes thechemical reaction :S-adenosyl-L-methionine + caffeoyl-CoA S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + feruloyl-CoA
Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are S-adenosyl methionine and
caffeoyl-CoA , whereas its two products areS-adenosylhomocysteine andferuloyl-CoA .This enzyme belongs to the family of
transferase s, specifically those transferring one-carbon group methyltransferases. The systematic name of this enzyme class is S-adenosyl-L-methionine:caffeoyl-CoA 3-O-methyltransferase. Other names in common use include caffeoyl coenzyme A methyltransferase, caffeoyl-CoA 3-O-methyltransferase, and trans-caffeoyl-CoA 3-O-methyltransferase. This enzyme participates inphenylpropanoid biosynthesis .tructural studies
As of late 2007, two structures have been solved for this class of enzymes, with PDB accession codes PDB link|1SUI and PDB link|1SUS.
