"Physical Biology" fosters the integration of biology with physics, chemistry, computer science and other mathematics-based disciplines. Its aim is to further the quantitative characterization and understanding of biological systems at different levels of complexity, ranging from the role of structure and dynamics of a single molecule to the organization and evolution of molecular and cellular networks.

The editor-in-chief is Terence Hwa at the University of California, San Diego, USA.

The journal had an Impact factor of 3.108 for 2007 according to Journal Citation Reports. It is indexed in ISI Web of Science/Science Citation Index, PubMed, MEDLINE, Inspec, Scopus, BIOSIS Previews/Biological Abstracts, EMBASE, EMBiology, and Current Awareness in Biological Sciences.

It is a subscription journal, but all papers are freely accessible for the first 30 days after publication at [http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/physbio the journal web site] .
