Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is New Hampshire's only academic medical center and is headquartered on a convert|225|acre|km2|sing=on campus in the heart of the Upper Connecticut River Valley, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

DHMC is New Hampshire's only Level I trauma center and one of only three in all of northern New England. DHMC is made up of four main elements, chief of which is Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital (MHMH), which has a 396-inpatient bed capacity and which serves as a major tertiary-care referral site for northern New England. Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital is one of eleven members of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Alliance, a regional network of hospitals and other health care organizations in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts that share a common commitment to finding cost-effective and innovative ways to meet the health care needs of each member's community.

Also making up DHMC are: the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic, a network of more than 900 primary and specialty care physicians located throughout New Hampshire and Vermont; Dartmouth Medical School, one of America's oldest and most respected medical schools; and the Veterans Affairs Regional Medical and Office Center at White River Junction, Vermont.

DHMC is also home to the [http://www.dhmc.org/dhmc/webpage.cfm?org_id=70 Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD)] , New Hampshire's only children's hospital, and the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, the state's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

In 1988, construction on the current facility began on a 225-acre (911,000-) lot in Lebanon. The new hospital opened in 1991 and has recently undergone an expansion to significantly increase outpatient, surgical, and emergency care space, as well as increasing research facilities at Norris Cotton Cancer Center.

The hospital contains a food court, travel agency, and a few shops. Recently, a parking garage was added to the hospital.
