Andrew Manze (born 14th January 1965,
Beckenham )is an Englishbaroque violinist and conductor.Having first started playing the baroque violin while studying
Classics atCambridge University , he went on to study withSimon Standage , one of the founding members ofThe English Concert , at theRoyal Academy of Music , followed by further studies withLucy van Dael atThe Hague andMarie Leonhardt .In 1988 he became first violin of the
Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under the direction ofTon Koopman . He was also a member of the ensembleRomanesca with John Toll (harpsichord ) andNigel North (lute ).From 2003 he was director of the
baroque orchestra The English Concert , having succeeded harpsichordistTrevor Pinnock . He relinquished this position in September 2007 toHarry Bicket .
