The Camerata Salzburg (founded as "Camerata Academica des Mozarteums Salzburg" renamed to "Camerata Academica Salzburg") is a
chamber orchestra fromSalzburg ,Austria .The
Camerata was founded in1952 byBernhard Paumgartner as "Camerata Academica des Mozarteums Salzburg" . Paumgartner invited his fellow teachers and students from the Musik AcademyMozarteum to form the Camerata. After his death in 1971 and three years without a leaderAntonio Janigro became the new leader of the Camerata. This was also the year when the first abonement series of concerts where performed in Salzburg ongoing to the present year. From 1978 till his death in 1997 the famous violinist and violin teacherSándor Végh was artistic director of the Camerata. Under his leadership the Camerata developed the style of playing it got famous for, often referred to as the "Camerata sound". From 1997 till 2007Roger Norrington was chief conductor at the C.S.. Since the season 2001/2002 until 2006Leonidas Kavakos wasPrincipal Guest Artist . Since the beginning of the season 2007/2008 Leonidas Kavakos is artistic director of the Camerata.Die Camerata produced more thean 50 CDs.
