Professor Carel Willem Hendrik Boshoff (born
November 9 ,1927 on the farm Doornfontein near Nylstroom [//adam.boshoff.myweb.absamail.co.za/Boshoff'sDoornf.htm] inModimolle ) is a African religious figure and cultural activist.Boshoff was the second child of Willem Sterrenberg Boshoff and Anna Maria (Annie) Boshoff. University of Pretoria to doctorate level in Missionary science and has done missionary work in the old Transvaal Provence. He speaks fluent iSipedi (Northern Sotho) and has served as Secretary of Missions for theDutch Reformed Church .Boshoff's wife Anna (died 2007), whom he married in 1954, was the daughter of
Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd (former prime minister of South Africa, mainly known as the architect of Apartheid). Boshoff's eldest sister was Verwoerd's secretary and now also lives in Orania. He has chaired theFreedom Front inNorthern Cape since 1994 which has since been taken over by his son, Carel Boshoff iv.In 1988 he founded AVSTIG or Afrikaner Vryheidstigting, although he is mainly known as the founder in 1990 of Orania, an
Afrikaner settlement. Intended as the beginning of avolkstaat , Boshoff has admitted his disappointment that it has only 600 residents, rather than the 60,000 he had anticipated. Orania recently got its own currency, the Ora and is famous for its Koeksister monument.
