This series was created in 2005 and replacing the Mexican Formula Renault Championship played in (2002-2004). Before, (1990-2001), the championship was Mexican Formula Three Championship.
The cars use Tatuus chassis and the 2.0 L Renault Clio engines like other Formula Renault 2.0 series.
