Biography
Frank Posegate was born in
Lafayette, Indiana . He was raised in Missouri where he worked as a printer's apprentice inSt. Joseph, Missouri .In 1858 he started "
The Weekly West " doing business as F. M. Posegate and Co. He was the Editor and publisher until August 1860.Frank Posegate, then 22 years old, is credited as the likely author for the first hand account of the start of the
Pony Express ride that appeared in the paper of a former sailor named Richardson on a fine bay mare marking the beginning of the Pony Express 7:15, April 3, 1860.In 1861 he enlisted as a private in Ohio and promoted to 2nd lieutenant on Septermber 18, 1861. On January 23, 1862 Posegate was promoted to 1st lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain on September 6, 1862. [Williams, Stephen E.
