Corby was 16 when he auditioned for Australian Idol, and placed as the runner-up to Natalie Gauci.

2008 - present

Corby signed with Scorpio Music Management in 2008 and under their guidance headed to London and New York late in 2008, where a series of gigs were played at iconic London venues including The Regal Room and The Bedford. He also sang at Hillsong Church London during his time in London.

On 5 June 2009 Matt's debut independent EP, Song For..., was released to ITunes with a limited number of physical copies also released to CD retailers in Australia on 19 June 2009. The 4 track EP received broad critical acclaim[citation needed] and featured the debut single, Letters.[2]

Matt returned to London in July 2009 for three months. He played numerous gigs at a variety of London venues, and whilst in the U.K. wrote and recorded his next EP (also in the folk genre), due for release in April 2010. He was in the final 12 in the inaugural Vanda and Young Songwriting Competition in 2009.

Corby spent the UK summer of 2010 recording his new EP ‘Transition to Colour’ with indie label and production team Communion. It was recorded over a three week period in a London studio with Ian Grimble (The Libertines, Seasick Steve). It was released in Australia and UK in October 2010. The EP reached #6 on the Top 20 Australian Singles Chart, after lead single 'Made of Stone' received significant airplay during the summer of 2011. He has since recorded the classic track ‘By My Side’ with iconic Aussie band INXS for their ‘Original Sin’ album and featured on a track on Julia Stone’s debut album ‘The Memory Machine’.

Live, Matt continues to win over audiences and new fans touring the country with the likes of Mumford and Sons and most recently UK alternate rockers Elbow on their Australian tours.

In September 2011 Corby announced he would be recording his 4 track EP "Into The Flame" recorded in 2 days at Sydneys Studio 301 with Tim Carr producing and good friends Tristan Thorne, Bree Tranter and Tim Coghill joining him to play bass, keys and drums. The lead track from the EP ‘Brother’ is arguably Corby’s most assured work to date; it showcases a fresh injection of soulful vocals and bluesy melodies bound together with his unique style of melodic folk.

On it's release date Corby posted on his website and Facebook page

"After 12 months of lots of ups and downs, I’m so excited to share this EP with you. I honestly felt like giving up music back in April but all of you inspired me again. It’s been an incredible few months re-connecting with all of you in gardens around Australia. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support. It’s been said by others before…. but you guys really are the best fans ever. Let’s stay close on this journey."
