G. S. Carr

G. S. Carr

George Shoobridge Carr (1837 – ??) wrote "Synopsis of Pure and Applied Mathematics" (1886)(ISBN 0-8284-0239-6). This book, first published in England in 1880, was read and studied closely by Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan when he was a teenager.

Carr was a coach for the Tripos mathematics examinations at the University of Cambridge, and the "Synopsis" was written as a study guide for those examinations.
