Archie Buchanan (played by Gilly Gilchrist) is a fictional character in the BBC Scotland soap, "River City".
Archie is married to Gina and is the son of Liz. He first appeared as the owner of the law practice, working with Gerry McGrade and laterally with Fi Kydd also. When it transpired that Archie had caused Niamh to go to jail for his crimes many years ago, and the fact that he was defrauding the firm, Fi and Gerry reported him to the police. He was held and then released on bail awaiting charge, but while on bail rekindled his affair with Niamh and was planning to fake his own death and run away with her. Unfortunately for Archie, this was discovered by his wife and mother before he could leave and when he attacked Gina, Liz knocked him out and they, along with Eileen, dumped his body off a cliff. Archie was seen moving at the bottom of the cliff leaving viewers wondering if he would return. At Christmas 2007 The Adams family were having their Christmas lunch in a hotel when Scarlett noticed a man working in the hotel who looked like Archie. Scarlet called Gina and told her who then came to the hotel to see him for herself when she got their she was told by Rose (The woman in charge of the restaurant) that she had found Archie at the bottom of the cliff and she took him in. Archie had lost his memory and was now convinced he was called Douglas. Later on he returned to Sheildinch where he went Archie away to Gina's door which was answered by a shocked Liz in the background a police car had pulled up ready to take. The police had either been phoned by Gina or by Gerry it is unknown whether he is arrested.Archie was questiooned by the police. Gina paid the bail money to get him out of jail, on the condition that he lived with her. This hasn't gone down too well with Eileen (Gina's sister) and Jo (Gina's daughter), although daughter Ruth doesn't seem too bothered by it.Gina & Douglas have recently made their feelings clear for each other and are back together. Douglas is convinced Gina only sees the Archie in him, but the viewers know this is not true.We are currently waiting to see if and when Douglas will regain his memory.
