larderer for King Henry I ofEngland before he was appointed to thesee of Hereford in September 1102.Vaughn "Anselm of Bec" pp. 246-248] He was invested with the bishopric onSeptember 29 1102 , by KingHenry I of England . He then atttended the Council of London held just days later. He became ill, and askedAnselm , theArchbishop of Canterbury to consecrate him before his death, but Anselm refused as the archbishop had already compromised with the king over theInvestiture Crisis by allowing the king to invest Roger.
