Howard A. Schmidt is an American
computer security specialist. He is currently President and CEO ofR & H Security Consulting LLC , which he founded in May 2005. Schmidt has served as Chief Security Strategist for theUS CERT Partners Program for the National Cyber Security Division throughCarnegie Mellon University , in support of the Department of Homeland Security. He has served as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Security Strategist foreBay . Schmidt served with the U.S. Air Force in various roles from 1967 to 1983, both in active duty and in the civil service.Fact|date=December 2007 He served in the Arizona Air National Guard with the 161st Communications Squadron in based at Phoenix International Airport, Phoenix, AZ from 1989 until 1998. In 1998, Schmidt transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves as a Special Agent, Criminal Investigation Division, where he continues to serve and is currently assigned to the Computer Crime Investigations Unit (CCIU). He has also served with the 315th MP Det (CID) at Ft. Lawton in WA. Schmidt also serves as the international president of the

Schmidt began his government service in the U.S. Air Force in 1967, where he studied Chemical Weapons, High Explosives and Nuclear Weapons while attending Munitions School. Between 1968 and 1974, Schmidt completed 3 Tours of Duty in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.Fact|date=December 2007 He left active military duty in 1974 when started his civil service career at the Gila Bend, Air Force Auxiliary Field, since renamed as the Barry M.
