The Most Reverend Patrick Dorrian D.D. (1814-1885) was an IrishRoman Catholic Prelate and 23rd Lord Bishop of Down and Connor.Career
Dr Dorrian was born in
Downpatrick on March 29th 1814 and was educated inSt Patrick's College, Maynooth , where he was ordained in 1833. He served as a curate inBelfast for ten years and was parish priest inLoughinisland ,County Down , from 1847 to 1860, at which time he becameCoadjutor Bishop ofDown and Connor . He was consecrated in St Malachy's Church, Belfast and eventually succeeded as Bishop in 1865. Dr Dorrian died at the Episcopal Palace, Chichester Park, Belfast,November 3 1885 , at 7 a.m., the Feast ofSaint Malachy , Patron of the Diocese; his remains were interred within the chancel of Saint Patrick's Church, Donegall Street, Belfast, on FridayNovember 6 . At a meeting of the parish priests held in the chapel of the Diocesan College,November 6 ,1885 , immediately after the funeral of Dr. Dorrian, Very Rev Patrick McAlister, P.P., was electedVicar Capitular ofDown and Connor . Fr McAllister was then named byPope Leo XIII as Dr Dorrian's successor as the 24th Lord Bishop of Down and Connor.External links
