Penweddig Community Secondary School ( _cy. Ysgol Gyfun Gymunedol Penweddig) is a Welsh-language community secondary school in the seaside town of Aberystwyth, West Wales. It is named after the old commote ( _cy. Cantref) bearing the same name (Penweddig). The school was established in 1973 [cite web|url=http://www.penweddig.ceredigion.sch.uk/e/prospectus/|title=Foreword by the headteacher|publisher=Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig] as a bilingual school although it is now a Welsh language school.The school was and remains the first Welsh language community secondary school in Ceredigion.

During the last Estyn school report 50% of the schools pupils come from homes where Welsh is not the main language and the school had approximatley 540 pupils aged 11 – 16 and 120 students in aged 16 – 18. The school's leadership team consists of the headmaster Mr Arwel George, deputy head Miss Bethan Evans and assistant head Mrs Shelagh Byers. The school's building is privately owned by Atkins (see below) and is rented to the local council for use as a school as an example of a public-private relationship in Wales.

When the school was started in the mid-70's the school was homed in a now derelict building in Ffordd Dewi, Aberystwyth owned by the council. In October 2001 the school moved to its current home in Llanbadarn Road ( _cy. Ffordd Llanbadarn).

Atkins Asset Management are private management contractors, and the company responsible for the general up-keeping of the school building. They employ many other companies to maintain different aspects of the school. These are:

*Scholarest for the food/drink services and canteen
*MITIE for the management of the grounds

In 2007, the school experienced a minor uniform change. The changes were:

*Changing the colour of the sweatshirt from navy blue to black to distinguish from Penglais School's sweatshirt, which is navy blue.
*The addition of red to the colours available for the polo shirts.

CECB

In 2006, Year 8 pupil Cadan ap Tomos (now Year 10) founded the Penweddig Climate Change Society ( _cy. Cymdeithas yn Erbyn Cynhesu Byd-eang). The group are committed to making the school "greener" in any way possible. The group is also a member of the Welsh Eco-Schools initiative ( _cy. Eco-Ysgolion) and are currently working towards the Green Flag as part of that initiative.
