Jayant Kaikini was born in Gokarna. His father,
Gourish Kaikini , a schoolteacher, was a Kannada littérateur and mother Shanta, a social worker. Jayanth Kaikini, since his early days as a writer has had short stories published in varied compilations and collections. Apart from these, he has published four books containing compilations of his poetry. He has written lyrics of Kannada movie songs. The songs of the movie
Mungaru Male became superhits.Kaikini received the Karnataka Sahitya Academy award for his first poetry collection at the age of nineteen in 1974. He received the same award again in 1982, 1989 and 1996 for his short story collections. He has been awarded the
Dinakara Desai award for his poetry, the B. H. Sridhar award for fiction, as well as the Katha National award and Rujuwathu trust fellowship for his creative writing.Bibliography
