Summary
This documentary provides a history of otaku-fandom, an introduction to anime conventions, and plenty of focus on the fans themselves. A variety of individuals are featured through interviews, including anime voice actors, industry representatives, con directors, and additionally a plethora of anime fans.[2]
Production
While initially Bresler only planned to create a short 15 minute film, the film turned into a 3 and a half year project, culminating in this feature length film.[3]
Reception
Otaku Unite! has been shown at a number of anime conventions, as well as film festivals including the 2004 Philadelphia Film Festival. Otaku Unite! has also been translated into both Japanese and Russian, and was featured in the May 2006 issue of the Japanese lifestyle magazine Cyzo.[4]
