"The Informers" is an upcoming 2009 American ensemble film written by Bret Easton Ellis and Nicholas Jarecki and directed by Gregor Jordan. The film is based on the Bret Easton Ellis' 1994 collection of short stories of the same name.

Filming took place in Los Angeles, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires. It was the last film for actor Brad Renfro before his January 15, 2008 death at the age of 25.

Premise

In Los Angeles in the 1980s, seven stories unfold in a week among "movie executives, rock stars, a vampire and other morally challenged characters".

Cast

:"These character synopses are brief and based on the characters as they appear in the novel and are subject to change to match the movie adaptation more closely

*Jon Foster as Graham: Graham is the character who appears most frequently in "The Informers", the son of William and Laura, brother to Susan and friends with many of the film's other characters, such as Raymond, Tim and Martin. Graham is a fairly moral character, but ultimately passive.

*Kim Basinger as Laura: In the novel, the character is unnamed. She is Graham's mother, who suffers from depression with the knowledge that her marriage to William is failing. She is addicted to librium and is sleeping with Martin, a teenage boy who resembles her son, and fantasies mostly about other teenage boys.

*Billy Bob Thornton as William: A movie producer, he divorces his wife Laura for TV newsreader Cheryl Laine, only to later become estranged from her as well.

*Cameron Goodman as Susan: Graham's sister, a student at Camden College who resents both her parents and Cheryl Laine for the childhood they have given her.

*Winona Ryder as Cheryl Laine: A TV news reporter, she begins marries William after his divorce from Laura only to become estranged from him as well and falls into depression.

*Amber Heard as Christie: Christie is Graham's self-centered girlfriend; he thinks that she is most likely cheating on him with his friend Martin.

*Aaron Himelstein as Raymond: A friend of Graham, Tim and Dirk who appears to be the only person affected by the recent death of their mutual friend Jamie, whom he considered to be his "best friend". Upset to the point of tears, he is unaware that he is the friend in their circle who Jamie cared least for.

*Lou Taylor Pucci as Tim Price: One of Graham's friends, he is forced to go on holiday with his largely absentee father who fears among other things that Tim might be gay. His father's regard for him however makes the cause of their animosity more clear. The character of Tim Price first appeared as an adult in "American Psycho" as Patrick Bateman's best friend and co-worker.

*Chris Isaak as Les Price: Tim's father, who is divorced from Tim's mother. Les drags Tim along against his will to a holiday with the intention of reconnecting to his son, but after drunkenly coming onto a girl that Tim is attracted to who he meets on holiday, only drives them further apart.

*Jessica Stroup as Rachel: A girl, who Tim met at the beach in Hawaii, is the same age as Tim. Rachel has dinner with Tim and his father. Tim's father tries to pick up Rachel during the dinner, at which makes Tim flips out and leave.

*Mel Raido as Bryan Metro: A rockstar, formerly of the band Lunar Park who is on his "Informers World Tour" in Japan. An alcoholic and a drug addict, he is prone to bouts of extreme violence, and is actually a serial rapist, attacking both his male and female Japanese chambermaids in this manner. He expresses unhappiness with every aspect of his life, after his marriage ended after his horrific assault of his wife.

*Brad Renfro as Jack: Jack is introduced when his uncle Peter and girlfriend Mary arrive with a small child they have kidnapped. This role was Brad Renfro's last, as shooting wrapped up approximately one month before his death in early 2008.

*Mickey Rourke as Peter: Peter is a psychopath and a heroin addict who has kidnapped a small boy with the hopes of extorting his parents for money, and is keeping him at Jack's house, who is his nephew in the film. Peter however, grows fond of the idea of killing the boy.

Rhys Ifans plays Roger, Bryan Metro's manager, while Angela Sarafyan plays Peter's girlfriend Mary and Simone Kessell plays the much-abused Nina Metro, who commits suicide at a party. Brandon Routh was originally cast as Jamie, but is absent from the finished movie after a decision to excise all the "vampire scenes" from the film adaptation. Ashley Olsen was originally cast as Christie - however, Olsen withdrew and was replaced by Heard.
