"The Informers" is a 1963 UK Crime Drama adapted from the novel "Death of a Snout" by Douglas Warner. The screenplay was written by Paul Durst and Alan Falconer with direction from Ken Annakin. Cinematography was by Reginald H. Wyer.

Plot

Chief Inspector Johnnoe (Nigel Patrick) is one of Scotland Yard's most successful detectives. Unfortunately much of his success is based on a network of "underworld" informers which no longer hold favour with his superiors in the wake of alleged police corruption. However, despite being ordered to break all ties with his contacts, and adopt more scientific methods of policing, he is determined to carry on as normal in order to trap a gang who have pulled off a series of daring bank robberies and murdered his most important informant, Jim Ruskin (John Cowley) as he suspects have murdered his most important informant. Going it alone Johnnoe is framed by the gang when a tip off leads to money from one of the robberies being found in his house.

Released on bail Johnnoe is given a lifeline through the intervention of Jim Ruskin's brother Charlie (Colin Blakely), who leads an attack on the gang and exposes the man behind them.
