"The Ambassador" is a 1984 American thriller film directed by J. Lee Thompson and stars Robert Mitchum, Ellen Burstyn and Rock Hudson. The political thriller was based on the 1951 crime novel "52 Pick Up" by Elmore Leonard.

Plot

A U.S. ambassador (Robert Mitchum) travels to Israel during attempted peace agreements with Palestinians that are being deterred by a security advisor (Rock Hudson). The ambassador's wife (Ellen Burstyn) enters an affair with a PLO leader. Others seek hush money from the ambassador about news of the affair, but the ambassador refuses, leading to a chain of events.
