Nguyen Van An

In this Vietnamese name, the family name is Nguyễn, but is often simplified to Nguyen in English-language text. According to Vietnamese custom, this person should properly be referred to by the given name An.

Nguyễn Văn An (born October 1, 1937, in Nam Định province) was the National Assembly Chairman of Vietnam. Appointed on 27 June, An was a proponent of government and administrative reform.^[1] He was re-elected on 23 July 2002.^[2] On 24 June 2006 he resigned, citing his age and the need for a new generation of leaders to take over.^[3]
