Lên đồng

Lên đồng

Lên đồng is the ritual of spirit mediumship in connection with "Đạo Mẫu", a Vietnamese Mother Goddess religion. Vietnamese people utilize Len dong as a way to create a connection between practitioners and the deities, with which they may communicate with each other. Scholars have shown Len Dong it be a spectacular showcase of much of Vietnamese culture in general. The Vietnamese government has legalized Len Dong since 1987 after having it deemed as superstitious activity at the beginning of the 1950s. Thus, it is seeing a recurrence in popularity of practice. Len Dong is performed throughout Vietnam, and notably in the SIlicon Valley, USA.

Len Dong can also be seen as the Vietnamese version of East Asian spirit mediumship practiced all over Asia, mainly in Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
