Early life and education
She attended
St George Girls High School inKogarah and then undertook an Arts and Law double degree atMacquarie University in Sydney.Career
She began her working career as a
speech writer to Federal Labor Senator Bruce Childs and then as an advisor toNSW Labor Government MinisterFrank Walker .She then travelled to Asia, the Middle East and Europe, prior to spending seven years based in London, where she worked for the British Labour Party as a
media advisor and political producer for British TV networksChannel Four andITN .On returning to Australia, she took up the role of the
Seven Network 's political producer in theFederal Parliamentary Press Gallery , based inCanberra . Jo then returned to advise the Labor Party as media advisor to SenatorPeter Cook and Labor LeaderKim Beazley .In 1997, Jo took up the role as Director in the
Sydney office of globalpublic affairs and financial communications consultancy Gavin Anderson & Company.In October 2007, she published her first book with Seven Network "
Sunrise " presenterMelissa Doyle entitled The Working Mother's Survival Guide, published byAllen & Unwin .
