Bridell

Bridell ( _cy. Y Bridell) is a village and parish in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is situated in the north of the county, 4 km south of Cardigan. The parish includes the village of Pen-y-bryn coord|52|3|15|N|4|39|34|W. Together with the parishes of Cilgerran and Llantood, it constitutes the community of Cilgerran.

The derivation of the name is obscure [Charles, B. G., "The Placenames of Pembrokeshire", National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1992, ISBN 0-907158-58-7, pp 347-8] . Lying on the western border of the cantref of Emlyn, it has always been essentially Welsh-speaking.

The parish had an area of 898 Ha. Its census populations were: 248 (1801): 335 (1851): 237 (1901): 220 (1951): 221 (1981).

The percentage of Welsh speakers was 94 (1891): 90 (1931): 51 (1971).
