Jonathan Gruber (economist)

Jonathan Holmes "Jon" Gruber (born September 30, 1965) is an American economist and a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Early years

Gruber was born on September 30, 1965. He completed his B.S. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1987 and his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University in 1992.

Academic career

Gruber started his career as an assistant professor of economics at MIT. Currently, he is a professor of economics at MIT. He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Research

Gruber is known for his research on the areas of public finance and health economics. He is a co-editor of the "Journal of Public Economics", an Associate Editor of the "Journal of Health Economics", and the author of the widely used textbook, "Public Finance and Public Policy" [ [http://econ-www.mit.edu/faculty/gruberj/shortbio MIT Department of Economics : Jonathan Gruber : Short Biography ] ] In 2006, he received the American Society of Health Economists Inaugural Medal for the best health economist in the nation aged 40 and under. Public service

Form 1997 to 1998, Gruber served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy in the U. S. Treasury Department.
