Prior to the construction of the Silver Legacy, the lot on which the casino stands was home to a supermarket and service station. In the years prior to the construction of
Interstates 80 and 580, the intersection of 4th and Virginia, pictured to the left, was the busiest intersection in the state of Nevada; at the time, Virginia Street was (and still is, according to mile-markers)US 395 , and 4th Street wasUS 40 .The property opened on July 28, 1995. The project, which was first announced in 1992, as a joint venture between Circus Circus Hotel & Casino and the Eldorado Casino Hotel. MGM Mirage is the majority partner, with 51%, to Eldorado's 49% holding. First known as "Project C", the $350 million casino was named in a local competition and had changed themes several times.
