Brian Sullivan (politician)

Brian J. Sullivan was elected to the Snohomish County Council in November 2007, and took office in January 2008. He represents County Council District 2, which includes the cities of Everett and Mukilteo, as well as portions of unincorporated Snohomish County. He resigned from the Legislature effective January 5, 2008 and was succeeded by Marko Liias.

Born in Butte, Montana, Sullivan previously served as a state representative representing the 21st Legislative District (2001–2008), Mayor of Mukilteo (1990–1997), and as a City Councilmember in Mukilteo (1986–1989). He was first elected to the House in 2001, defeating Republican Joe Marine in a race that broke a 49–49 tie in the Washington House of Representatives. He also served as the chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

In addition to his public service, he has served as the Coordinator for Snohomish County Tomorrow, a local planning agency in Snohomish County, and as a small business owner of Riley's in Mukilteo. He studied political science at Central Washington University and the University of Washington, and he is a graduate of Mariner High School in Everett, WA. He is married with two children.

Snohomish County Council campaign

In December 2006, Brian Sullivan announced that he would be a candidate for the Snohomish County Council in November 2007. After finishing the legislative session in April 2007, Sullivan launched his campaign and defeated Democratic State Senator Jean Berkey in the August 2007 primary election.

In the November general election, Sullivan faced Republican Bill Cooper of Mukilteo and received 68% of the vote. Shortly after the election, he announced that he would resign from the State House of Representatives.
