is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. IJsselstein received city rights in 1331.

The 375 metres high television mast Gerbrandy Tower is located in IJsselstein, although it is commonly known as "Lopik". The city has an old town, surrounded by a small canal. The river Hollandse IJssel flows through the city. There was a castle in IJsselstein from 1300 to 1888, but only the tower has survived. The N.H.Nicolaas-church was founded in 1310. Inside the church there are two mausoleums; one of the family of Gijsbrecht van Amstel (1350) and another one of Aleida van Culemborg (1475). There is another, neo-gothic R.K. St. Nicolaas-church (1887). Pope Paul VI gave the church the title of 'Basilica Minor' in 1972.
