Barneveld (pronunciation|Nl-Barneveld.ogg) is a town and a
municipalityin the province of Gelderlandin the Netherlands. The population of the municipality was 50,028 in 2005, the town having a population of 28,147 [ [http://www.barneveld.nl/documenten/Barneveld%20in%20Cijfers%202005.pdf Barneveld in Cijfers 2005] ] .
Barneveld has become famous in the Netherlands for poultry farming and egg production and has a breed of chicken, the
Barnevelder, named after it.
A notable event in the history of Barneveld is the story of
Jan van Schaffelaar, a cavalry commander in the Hook and Cod warswho jumped off the church tower in 1482 in order to save the lives of his men.
Barneveld is known worldwide as the cradle of the Baan Company, founded there in 1978 by Jan Baan. Baan was a longtime leader in the ERS-market.
