- Leonard R. Brand
.
Within the field of geology, Brand is best known for his research suggesting that fossil tracks in the
Grand Canyon 'sCoconino Sandstone point to underwater deposition, rather than desert wind deposition of dry sand. ["Geology Today", vol. 8(3), May–June 1992, pp, 78–79 (Wet tracks).] [Monastersky, R., 1992. "Wading newts may explain enigmatic tracks." "Science News", vol. 141 (1), p. 5.] [Brand, L.R. and Tang, T., 1991. "Fossil vertebrate footprints in the Coconino Sandstone (Permian) of northern Arizona: Evidence for underwater origin." "Geology", vol. 19, pp. 1201–1204.]Brand received his Ph.D. in Biology from
Cornell University in 1970. He is presently a professor of biology and paleontology in the Department of Earth and Biological Sciences (School of Science and Technology) atLoma Linda University . He was the chair of the department until 2000. Brand is also a creationist and proponent of Intelligent Design. [Brand, Leonard R.
