James J. Hill, The Empire Builder's civic legacy is the [http://www.jjhill.org/ James J. Hill Reference Library] in downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota. This public business research library is open to the public and its resources can be used for free on site. In addition, the Hill Library hosts business and social events in its historic reading room.

Under the leadership of former Hill Library president Sam Richter (2001 – 2008) [ [http://www.startribune.com/535/story/1353987.html Minneapolis Star Tribune] 2007-08-12] the Hill Library leveraged technology and expanded to serve entrepreneurs and small businesses nationwide.
