NRX-009 Valient

This article is about a fictional weapon from the After War timeline of the anime Gundam metaseries.

In the anime series Gundam X, the Valient was one of the first new mobile suits built by the New Earth Federation in the After War era. Unlike the old Daughtress series, the Valient focused on aerial combat, lacking any kind of real legs. However, its improved movement allowed it to float next to the ground indefinitely, making it a useful Mobile Suit for ground combat too, even though it clearly wasn't its primary role. In no time, the success of the Valient in battlefields around the world changed its production from a limited experimental one to the United Nations Earth's new primary Mobile Suit, replacing the old Daughtress series. To show those changes, the Valient's model number was changed to NR-001.

Its armor was improved compared to the Daughtress, and it was supposed to be able to take hits from weaker beam weapons. The GX-9901-DX Gundam Double X had problems cutting through them with its Hyper Beam Swords, and they actually took a few seconds to be destroyed by a direct hit of the NRX-0013-CB Gundam Virsago Chest Break's megasonic gun. However, that limited improved armor didn't seem to show much utility in real combat. During the first battle against SRA forces, the Frost Brothers were greatly surprised when the SRA's old Octapes destroyed Valients with single hits of their beam rifles.

Armed primarily with Beam Weapons, like a beam rifle and a pair of beam sabers, there were a few units still carrying old Machine Guns, like the ones escorting the Freeden crew, when they were captured by the New United Nations Earth's forces.
