Parker Cleaveland from 1806-1858, a minerologist and a professor at nearbyBowdoin College .While he was a
professor atBowdoin College ,Parker Cleaveland conducted some of the earliest studies ofmineralogy in theUnited States . His 1816 work "ElementaryTreatise on Mineralogy andGeology ", which included a volume on types and localities of Americanmineral s, became the standardtextbook on the subject in Americanhigher education and the model for future mineralogy scholarship and publications. Cleaveland, the "Father of American Mineralogy", lived in thishouse from 1806 to 1858.The house was listed on the
