footnotes =Ameland Airport (Dutch: Vliegveld Ameland) is a small
general aviation airport located near the town ofBallum on the island ofAmeland in the north ofthe Netherlands . It is the northern most airport in the country located in a region known as theWadden .The airport has a single short grass runway 09/27 and a
helipad , the latter being mainly used for search-and-rescue (SAR) flights. A second shorter runway is planned. Custom services are not available, so no international flights are allowed except for flights from other Schengen countries. Being used mainly for recreational purposes, the airport is not open unless prior arrangements are made in the winter time, this being from the first of October to the last day of March.About 5,500 airplane movements (a movement being a take-off or a landing) are made at the airport a year.
