Its seat is the town of Bolków, which lies approximately convert|15|km|mi|0 south-west of Jawor and convert|70|km|mi|0 west of the regional capital Wrocław.

The gmina covers an area of convert|152.8|km2|mi2|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 11,047 (out of which the population of Bolków amounts to 5,380, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 5,667).
